Jennifer Crake is riding across Africa to raise money to support African women in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Below you will find all the onfo you need to donate to her cause. I don’t generally blog about these sorts of things, but I truly believe in what Jennifer is doing. If she can ride through Africa on a bike, surely I can sit in front of my computer and help her reach her goal of $25,000 by sharing her story with all of you.

Dear Friends,
For the last three years I have been dreaming of cycling across Africa. On early morning rides when the sun is rising in sleepy Toronto, I imagine what it might be like to ride my bike along the shores of Red Sea in Egypt and feel the desert wind on my face (and the sand under my wheels!) in Sudan. I try to visualize the 1,800 metre precipitous descent and ascent of the Blue Nile Gorge in Ethiopia and crossing the equator in Kenya. On cold, windy mornings when the urban landscape offers little to inspire me, I turn my thoughts to the tribesmen of the Masai – my companions along the road in Tanzania and the friendly people in the market towns in Malawi. I picture myself riding through Zambia , renowned for its wildlife and natural beauty, and clocking over 200 kilometres a day in beautiful Botswana. On the days when I wonder if it is worth it to get up and ride at 5am – I climb on my bike and envision myself spinning along the “Elephant Highway” in Namibia and touring into South Africa the week of my 40th birthday.
Welcome to the Tour d’Afrique – www.tourdafrique.com/epictours/tourdafrique – my dream – my obsession – and my planned adventure for 2010. Next January I will be participating in one of the longest, most gruelling cycling races/expeditions in the world - traversing the entire continent of Africa by bike – 11,844km in 120 days – from Cairo to Cape Town. After over 12 years in book publishing, I will be taking a leave of absence from Tourmaline Editions Inc./DK Canada (thanks, Loraine!) to bring to fruition my dream of riding across Africa and raising awareness about sexual violence against women.
